The excitement surrounding India’s upcoming tour of New Zealand is already translating into record ticket demand, with more than 26,000 tickets sold during the first 48 hours of the Cricket Nation member pre-sale.
The NZC International summer of cricket pre-sale opened on Monday, and the unprecedented early demand has been largely driven by India’s historic 12-match multi-format tour, which begins in October.
According to NZC, the white-ball fixtures at Auckland’s Eden Park are currently leading the way in ticket sales, underlining the enormous interest among New Zealand cricket fans in watching India compete on home soil.
The tour will feature a packed schedule of matches across New Zealand, with supporters set to have multiple opportunities to see some of the biggest names in international cricket.
Christchurch’s Hagley Oval is also experiencing exceptionally strong demand. The 9,000-capacity venue is expected to sell out for the two opening T20I matches scheduled for October 22 and October 24.
The venue will also host the second and final Test of the tour, which is scheduled to conclude the series from November 27 to December 1.
As reported by NZC, the strong early ticket sales in Christchurch reflect the growing anticipation surrounding India’s visit and the opportunity for fans to experience international cricket featuring one of the world’s most followed cricket teams.
Wellington has also recorded strong early sales. HNRY Stadium will host the third T20I and the second ODI, while the iconic Cello Basin Reserve will stage the opening Test beginning on November 19.
With demand already reaching record levels during the member pre-sale, fans who have not yet secured tickets are being encouraged to plan ahead rather than wait for the general public sale.
NZC Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer Glenn Critchley said the response from supporters showed that many fans had acted on the organisation’s advice to purchase tickets early.
“Our message to fans from the start has been to get organised to avoid missing out - and the record sales in the first two days proves many have listened.”
Critchley said India's visit presents a rare opportunity for New Zealand supporters to watch some of the biggest names in world sport competing against the Black Caps.
“This is a rare chance for Kiwis to experience the incredible buzz of a game of cricket involving India and watch some of the biggest sport stars on the planet compete.”
According to NZC, ticket prices have deliberately been kept at the same level as the previous season, with Cricket Nation members able to access tickets for under $30 when using their access code.
“We’ve deliberately kept the ticket prices the same as the previous season, and at under $30 a ticket using our Cricket Nation access code,
“We’re delighted fans are getting in early to secure their seats and with the general public sale still 11 days away, our message remains the same - get organised and don’t miss out.”
Critchley also highlighted additional options available to supporters, including ‘The Four’ and ‘The Six’ group ticket packages, along with venue ticket bundles designed to provide further value for fans attending matches together.
The NZC general public ticket sale is scheduled to begin on September 7. However, supporters can still get ahead of the wider sale by joining Cricket Nation and taking advantage of the exclusive pre-sale window.
Fans who sign up to Cricket Nation can also access a 15% discount on tickets, making the membership option particularly attractive for supporters planning to attend multiple matches during India’s tour.
NZC has encouraged fans to organise their tickets early, particularly given the record-breaking response during the first two days of the member sale.
With 26,000 tickets already snapped up in just 48 hours and several venues reporting particularly strong demand, the India tour is shaping up to be one of the major highlights of New Zealand’s upcoming international cricket summer.
