Police say new information has been provided by the public following an appeal to identify several young women in connection with a serious assault at Auckland’s Morningside train station on Halloween last year.
According to a report by 1News, the incident occurred on the evening of October 31, 2025, when four people, three women and one man, all in their early 20s, were allegedly attacked on the station platform and inside a train carriage.
The victims told the NZ Herald in January that the incident left them "deeply fearful of public transport" after the violent encounter, as quoted by 1News.
One victim claimed that about 35 teenagers were involved in the attack, alleging the group surrounded them and "took turns" assaulting the victims.
The victims suffered a range of injuries, including head wounds, deep cuts and extensive bruising.
As part of the investigation, police on Sunday released images of several young women who were present at the scene. The individuals were shown wearing costumes and appeared to be consuming alcohol.
Police confirmed that progress had already been made in the case.
"Two young people have been arrested, however police are still working to identify some of the people present at the time," 1News has quoted.
Detective Sergeant Craig Burrow said investigators had received fresh information after the public appeal.
"Police have had a positive response to our public appeal that was put out over the weekend," he said, as quoted by 1News.
"We have received some information, and we are working through this at present," 1News has quoted.
Police are continuing their inquiries and are encouraging anyone with additional information about the incident to contact authorities through 105.
