Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated two new corridors of the Delhi Metro network, including the country’s first fully operational ‘Ring Metro’, marking a significant step toward improving public transportation in the national capital.

According to a report by NDTV, the newly launched corridors include the Majlis Park–Maujpur Babarpur corridor of the Pink Line and the Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park corridor of the Magenta Line. The Majlis Park–Maujpur Babarpur stretch is approximately 12.3 km long, while the Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park corridor covers about 9.9 km.

The Majlis Park–Maujpur Babarpur corridor consists of eight elevated stations and forms part of the existing Majlis Park–Shiv Vihar Pink Line. With the addition of this new stretch, the Pink Line now spans around 71.56 km, making it India’s first fully operational ‘Ring Metro’, as reported by NDTV.

The stations on this corridor include Majlis Park, Burari, Jharoda Majra, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Soorghat, Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar and Maujpur-Babarpur.

The corridor also includes major infrastructure features such as a new bridge over the Yamuna River and a double-decker viaduct carrying both a metro line and a road flyover, which is expected to ease traffic congestion in the area, NDTV has reported.

The second corridor, running from Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park, is an elevated extension of the Botanical Garden–Krishna Park Extension Magenta Line and includes seven stations. With this extension, the total length of the Magenta Line has increased to around 49 km, as reported by NDTV.

The stations on this route include Deepali Chowk, Madhuban Chowk, Uttar Pitampura-Prashant Vihar, Haiderpur Village, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Bhalswa and Majlis Park.

Notably, parts of this corridor reach a height of around 28.36 metres, making it one of the highest elevated sections in the Delhi Metro network.

Foundation Stone for Three New Corridors

According to NDTV, during the event, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for three new metro corridors under Phase-V (A) of the Delhi Metro expansion plan. These include the Central Vista corridor from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, the Golden Line extension from Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Domestic Airport Terminal-1, and another Golden Line extension from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj.

According to an official statement, the 9.913 km Central Vista corridor will be constructed underground and will include stations such as Shivaji Stadium, Central Secretariat, India Gate, War Memorial-High Court, Baroda House, Bharat Mandapam and Indraprastha. The corridor is expected to improve connectivity to important government and cultural landmarks in central Delhi.

The Aerocity-Terminal 1 extension of the Golden Line will be a 2.263 km underground stretch with one new station, while the 3.9 km Tughlakabad-Kalindi Kunj extension will be an elevated corridor with stations at Sarita Vihar Depot, Madanpur Khadar and Kalindi Kunj, NDTV has reported.

Once completed, the project will significantly improve connectivity for commuters. In particular, passengers from Noida will have improved access through Kalindi Kunj and onward connections to south Delhi and the airport, further strengthening Delhi’s metro network.
