A person has died after being pulled from the water at St Clair Beach in Dunedin on Thursday.
Police said emergency services were called to the beach just before midday, where the person was unresponsive in the water, Stuff has reported.
Paramedics and other first responders attempted emergency treatment at the scene, but the person could not be revived and was pronounced dead.
Images from the scene showed members of the public assisting emergency crews, while paramedics and firefighters held up sheets to shield the area from public view, Stuff has reported.
The death will be referred to the Coroner.
