A police officer leapt into the sea to rescue a woman stranded on rocks near Auckland’s Castor Bay on Friday afternoon. Reported by RNZ.

Police received a call around 1.30pm from a woman who said she was trapped between Castor Bay Beach and Kennedy Park, with rising tides and strong waves crashing over her.

“She was being battered by waves and an incoming tide,” said Senior Sergeant CJ Miles, Waitematā East area response manager.

Officers kept her calm until the Auckland police maritime unit arrived and tossed her a lifejacket. One officer then jumped into the water to help guide her safely onto the vessel.

The woman was transported for a medical assessment following the rescue.
