A 36-year-old man has been arrested following an alleged assault on a passenger aboard an Auckland bus on Thursday morning.

According to a report by Stuff, police said they were alerted to the incident at about 11 am after receiving reports of an altercation involving a passenger on the 83 bus route.

According to police, the offender allegedly directed derogatory comments at the victim before physically assaulting them during the incident. The victim left the bus at the next stop after the confrontation.

According to Stuff, Senior Sergeant Caroline Miles said a man was taken into custody later the same day in connection with a separate matter. Officers later spoke with him regarding the bus assault.

“Police would like to thank several members of the public who witnessed the assault and contacted police,” Miles said, Stuff has quoted.

The 83 bus route typically runs through several North and West Auckland areas, including Takapuna, Albany and Massey.
