An Indian-origin technology executive at Google was allegedly shot dead by her husband during a domestic violence incident at their home in the US state of Georgia. Their 23-year-old son was also injured in the shooting and is currently receiving medical treatment, according to NDTV.
The accused, 56-year-old Kirk B Wrzesien, was arrested on Tuesday night at the family's residence in Cobb County, near Atlanta, NDTV reported. He is currently being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Centre, according to local media reports cited by NDTV.
Police said officers responded to reports of a shooting shortly before 8:00 pm local time at a home in Smyrna, Georgia, NDTV reported.
When officers arrived at the residence, they found 57-year-old Sheetal Wrzesien inside the house with multiple gunshot wounds. She later succumbed to her injuries, according to NDTV.
The couple's 23-year-old son, Jason Wrzesien, was discovered outside the residence with a gunshot wound. Emergency responders transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment, NDTV reported.
According to local news reports cited by NDTV, the Cobb County Police Department has charged Kirk Wrzesien with one count of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Police have described the incident as a case of domestic violence and confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public, NDTV reported.
Authorities have not disclosed what may have led to the shooting and have not released an updated statement regarding Jason Wrzesien's medical condition, according to NDTV.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have not announced any additional arrests or revealed a possible motive behind the incident, NDTV reported.
Sheetal Wrzesien was an engineering leader at Google with more than two decades of experience across a wide range of technology leadership roles, according to NDTV.
Before joining Google, she led mobile and digital transformation initiatives at HomeDepot.com, where she played a key role in expanding the company's digital home décor and furnishings business, NDTV reported.
Throughout her career, she also held several senior technical leadership positions across the weather technology and financial technology sectors.
Her professional expertise included strategic leadership, organisational transformation, mobile and web technologies, marketing technology, and e-commerce, according to NDTV.
Having spent her early years in England, India, and Ghana, Sheetal later moved to the United States to pursue a degree in Computer Science at the Georgia Institute of Technology, NDTV reported.
She lived in Atlanta, Georgia, with her husband and their two children, Jason and Jessica.
Beyond her corporate career, Sheetal was a named inventor on two software patents, served on the Advisory Board of the Georgia Tech College of Computing, and was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Georgia Tech Alumni Association, according to NDTV.
