The White Ferns suffered their second consecutive defeat in World Cup warm-up matches, going down to India by four wickets in Bengaluru.
According to a report by RNZ, in a rain-shortened contest reduced to 42 overs, New Zealand opted to bat first and posted 232 for eight. Captain Sophie Devine anchored the innings with a fluent 54, supported by Amelia Kerr’s 40 and Maddy Green’s unbeaten 49. Left-arm spinner Shree Charani proved difficult to handle, finishing with three wickets.
India’s reply began with authority as Harleen Deol (74 retired) and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (69) powered the chase. Despite a late wobble that saw them lose four quick wickets, with Bree Illing claiming two scalps, the hosts reached their target with eight balls to spare. Illing and Jess Kerr both finished with two wickets each, RNZ reported.
Speaking after the match, Green highlighted the positives despite the loss: “Disappointing not to get over the line, but the encouraging thing is we’re seeing some really good signs from the squad. Sophie batted brilliantly, and Breezy’s spell was excellent. We’re looking forward to our first game against Australia,” as reported by RNZ.
The result follows New Zealand’s earlier defeat to India A in their first warm-up fixture. The White Ferns now turn their attention to their World Cup opener against Australia in Indore on Wednesday.
