Police are investigating a burglary in the Auckland suburb of Swanson where a large quantity of precious metals was stolen from a residential property earlier this month.
According to police, the burglary occurred sometime between January 14 and January 27. Officers say the stolen items include silver bullion and gold coins with a substantial combined value.
Detective Shaun Galbraith of the Waitematā West Tactical Crime Unit said a large quantity of silver bullion, including 1kg silver bars, had been taken from the property, 1News has reported.
Each bar carried an inscription linked to Morris & Watson.
“A number of 1oz gold Kiwi coins were also stolen from the property.”
Galbraith said the combined value of the items was “significant”.
“We are determined to locate those responsible and hold them to account but we need the public's help,” as quoted by 1News.
Police are appealing to residents who may have noticed suspicious activity in the Swanson area during the past two weeks to come forward.
Galbraith said police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen people or vehicles around the Swanson Road and Christian Road areas between January 14 and January 27.
“If you noticed unusual activity near rural driveways, gate areas, or properties backing onto the Swanson rail corridor then please reach out,” 1News has quoted.
Investigators are also asking for information from anyone who may have been offered precious metals for sale under unusual circumstances.
“He said police were also keen to hear from people who may have been offered a large amount of silver or gold for sale in unusual circumstances,” 1News has quoted.
“If you have any information regarding the burglary or the whereabouts of the bullion, please contact the police,” as quoted by 1News.
