In a breathtaking discovery, a Spanish wildlife photographer has captured the world’s first-ever white Iberian lynxroaming the mountains of Jaén, Spain. Reported by The Times Of India
The rare feline, with its pale cream coat and piercing amber eyes, is the first leucistic Iberian lynx ever recorded — a genetic condition that causes partial pigment loss without affecting health or vision.
Photographer Ángel Hidalgo, who spent years tracking lynxes in the wild, finally succeeded in filming the elusive animal.
“After so many failed attempts, nature rewarded me with something truly extraordinary,” he said.
Experts say this sighting symbolizes the success of Spain’s conservation efforts, which have revived the lynx population from fewer than 100 in 2002 to over 2,000 today.
The white lynx now stands as a living emblem of nature’s resilience and genetic diversity.
