A child has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after being attacked by a dog in Christchurch.
According to a report by 1News, emergency services were called to Breezes Rd in Aranui at about midday on Tuesday following reports of the attack.
Police Senior Sergeant Hamish-Keer-Keer said animal management had been notified and police remained at the scene.
St John said a rapid response unit and an ambulance attended.
"Our ambulance staff treated one patient and transported them to Christchurch Public Hospital in a serious condition," as quoted by 1News.
Christchurch City Council Animal Management confirmed it had seized a six-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier cross following the incident.
"We will be undertaking an investigation so cannot comment further," 1News has quoted.
The attack happened just a few streets from where a fatal dog attack occurred last month.
One-year-old Sonny-Charles Watson died after being bitten by a dog at a home on Basingstoke St in Aranui on August 14. The dog involved was later put down, as reported by 1News.
