A child has died following a dog attack at a home in Christchurch’s Aranui suburb on Friday afternoon.
According to a report by Stuff, emergency services were called to a property on Basingstoke Street at about 4.45pm after reports that a child had suffered serious injuries from a dog bite. Responders found the child in a critical condition.
Despite efforts by emergency personnel and a household member, the child died at the scene.
Police said the dog was known to the occupants and lived at the property.
Officers remain at the scene as they investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack. The occupants are assisting police with their enquiries, Stuff has reported
A police cordon was placed around the property, while forensic staff and animal control officers were also seen at the scene, as reported by Stuff.
Police have asked that the privacy of the child’s family be respected as enquiries continue, Stuff has reported.
