Immigration New Zealand has announced that the updated List of Qualifications Exempt from Assessment (LQEA) will come into effect from 23 June 2025. The update is part of a broader initiative to ensure the LQEA continues to provide a streamlined process for applicants with overseas qualifications.

“The LQEA sets out the comparable New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF) level and qualification type for specified overseas qualifications,” Director Visa at Immigration New Zealand, Sarah Clifford, told The Indian Weekender.

New qualifications from the following countries will be added to the LQEA:
France, Germany, India, Italy, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Sweden, and Switzerland.

In addition, updates will be made to qualifications from Australia, Japan, Malaysia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States to improve consistency and clarity.

“Further updates to the LQEA were announced yesterday and will come into effect from 23 June 2025, including India being added to the list,” Clifford added.

The following table outlines the institutions and qualifications from India that will be included from 23 June 2025. It is important to note that the list applies to:

  • Bachelor’s degrees requiring three or more years of full-time study

  • Master’s degrees requiring two or more years of full-time study

“The Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) are excluded,” Clifford clarified.
