Auckland's Waitematā (Britomart) Station has reopened after a nearby vegetation fire in Parnell forced its temporary closure, disrupting train services across the city's rail network.
According to a report by 1News, emergency services were called to Fred Ambler Lookout at about 4.10 am after a vegetation fire broke out there. Fire and Emergency New Zealand responded with four fire trucks and a ladder truck, with crews attending from Parnell, Auckland City, Remuera and Grey Lynn.
The incident led to the closure of Waitematā Station, Auckland's central rail hub, resulting in cancellations and disruptions to train services throughout the morning, 1News has reported.
Earlier, Auckland Transport advised passengers that the station would remain closed "until further notice" while emergency services responded to the incident.
A spokesperson for Auckland Transport told 1News: "Confirming that due to an emergency services incident, a fire near Ōrākei, Waitematā Station is temporarily closed".
Just after midday, Auckland Transport announced it had received the "all clear" from emergency services and confirmed the station had reopened, as reported by 1News.
Regular train services have since resumed, restoring normal operations across the network.
