According to a report by RNZ, two Aspect Sun branded sunscreens are being recalled after independent lab testing suggested the SPF levels may not meet the claims on their labels.
Product Safety New Zealand confirmed that preliminary results indicated the SPF protection of the affected products was “unlikely to meet the labelled SPF rating.” Officials warned that a lower-than-stated SPF could increase the risk of sunburn and reduce long-term effectiveness in preventing skin cancer.
The recall applies to the following products:
Aspect Sun Physical Sun Protection SPF50+ (SN-075-054) – Batch numbers: A2450, A2190, A1958, A1492
Aspect Sun Tinted Physical SPF50+ (SN-075-057) – Batch numbers: A2451, A2191, A1976, A1629
Consumers who purchased these sunscreens are advised to stop using them immediately. Refunds will be provided with proof of purchase.
The affected products were available in New Zealand between November 2022 and August 2025 through various retailers nationwide.
