MYSURU — The dazzling drone show held at the Torchlight Parade Grounds in Bannimantap on September 28 has earned Mysuru a prestigious spot in the Guinness World Records. The Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) created a breathtaking aerial artwork of a tiger using 2,983 drones — setting a new global record during this year’s Dasara celebrations. According to CESC Managing Director Munigopal Raju, the decision to nearly double the number of drones from 1,500 used in 2024 to 3,000 this year was aimed at making the show “a memorable experience” for spectators. He said the record-setting attempt was conducted following all necessary procedures, including certification by a London-based team and verification by aeronautical engineers, auditors, and legal experts.

“The earlier record involved 1,985 drones forming a tiger. We wanted to surpass that and decided to attempt creating our national animal with 3,000 drones — something that had never been done before,” Mr. Raju said.

The first trial demonstration took place on September 28, followed by another on September 29, ahead of the main shows planned for October 1 and 2. Spectators were left spellbound as the drones lit up the Mysuru sky with vivid images — including the solar system, world map, Indian soldier, peacock, eagle, dolphin, Lord Krishna dancing on a serpent, ‘Mother Cauvery’, Ambari elephant, Goddess Chamundeshwari, and a map of Karnataka featuring Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and the state’s five guarantee schemes.

Mr. Raju explained that selecting the visuals required precision since each drone had limited power backup, allowing for only 10–12 image transitions. He credited the success to nearly 100 professionals from a private drone company and around 200 CESC staff members involved in the project.

Before the drone show began, playback singer Kunal Ganjawala and his troupe entertained the crowd with a vibrant musical performance, setting the tone for an unforgettable evening.
