Shah Rukh Khan is gearing up to rule the big screen once again, and this time, the crown fits just right.
The much-anticipated action spectacle ‘King’, starring Shah Rukh Khan and directed by Siddharth Anand, is officially set for an international cinema release on December 24, 2026, promising a thunderous festive finale to the year. The film will be distributed overseas through a high-profile collaboration between Red Chillies Entertainment (RCE) and Marflix Pictures (MP), alongside industry heavyweight Yash Raj Films (YRF).
For fans tracking Bollywood’s biggest power alliances, the partnership is a familiar and formidable one. RCE and YRF previously joined forces for the global releases of ‘Jawan’ and ‘Dunki’ in 2023 — both massive crowd-pullers that reinforced Shah Rukh Khan’s global appeal. With King, the trio is once again betting big on spectacle, scale and star power.
Pritesh Raniga from Forum Films, which will be handling the release in New Zealand and the Fiji Islands, shared the excitement around the project. "2026 is set to be an exhilarating year for Indian cinema, with many highly anticipated films on the horizon. 'King' is definitely one of our favorites! As lifelong SRK fans, we are thrilled to bring this cinematic experience to the big screens in New Zealand and the Fiji Islands. The excitement is palpable!" he told The Indian Weekender.
Already being tipped as one of the largest Indian film releases of 2026, King has generated significant buzz well ahead of its release. Expectations are soaring, particularly after the title reveal and early glimpses hinted at a darker, more intense SRK avatar.
That intensity was unmistakable when Shah Rukh Khan delivered a chilling line in the film: "Darr nahi, deshshat hoon. (I am not fear, I am terror)."
The line instantly set social media alight, reinforcing the film’s promise of a fierce, no-holds-barred narrative.
The title King itself was unveiled last year on Shah Rukh Khan’s birthday by director Siddharth Anand, making the moment all the more special for fans. The reveal video offered the first look at SRK’s character and marked Anand’s second collaboration with the superstar after the blockbuster Pathaan. More than a promotional drop, the title reveal was positioned as a heartfelt tribute to Shah Rukh Khan’s legacy — a birthday gift from director to icon.
With its Christmas Eve release date locked in, King is being positioned as a major festive draw for international audiences, including New Zealand and the Pacific.
