One critically injured in Onehunga firearms incident

One person is left critically injured following a firearms incident in the central Auckland suburb of Onehunga.

Police said they were called to a property on Arthur Street shortly after 11am, where a person was found with serious injuries.

“Shortly after 11am Police received reports a person had received injuries consistent with a gunshot wound at a property on Arthur Street,” Inspector Jason Homan said.

The injured person was transported to hospital in a critical condition.

Police have confirmed an increased presence will remain in the area while enquiries are ongoing.


The incident has prompted concern among local residents, with the Onehunga Community Patrol Facebook page posting about the police response.

"Yes, there has been a firearms incident on Arthur Street, near Alfred. Please avoid the area if possible. Police have the area locked down," the post said.

“There is a lot of speculation occurring online, as info becomes confirmed we will update.
