International visitors to New Zealand will soon be able to access health insurance through nib thanks to a new partnership with Kiwi insurance innovator, OrbitProtect.

The partnership will give New Zealand’s second-largest health insurer access to the International Inbound Health Insurance (IIHI) Market from October providing health cover services for inbound travellers to New Zealand such as international workers, students and tourists.

This partnership could potentially fulfil a long felt need within the Kiwi-Indian community of having an appropriate health insurance product that could cover visiting parents of the members of the community.

Nib CEO, Rob Hennin, said the relationship complements nib’s current suite of health insurance covers for New Zealand residents and short-term travellers. “We have already cemented ourselves as New Zealand’s second-largest health insurer with our range of affordable health insurance products that help people access and afford world-class healthcare.

Access to the IIHI market locally is a sensible strategic fit that allows us to provide a complete health solution for anyone visiting or residing in New Zealand,” Mr Hennin said.

“We already have a strong presence in the Australian IIHI market, and we’re excited to now get involved in the New Zealand market,” he said.

Recently, there have been few unfortunate incidents in the community where many visiting parents of the members of the community have experienced sudden health situations causing much distress to the family as they do not have access to public-funded health facilities.

Earlier last month in September, during a NIB product launch event for the migrants, The Indian Weekender had raised the issue and a long felt gap in the health insurance market that could adequately cover visiting parents of the members of the community.

The fact that this recent announcement of the launch of a new product that could potentially give a big relief to many members of the community along with others has come as a welcome surprise.

“Our partnership with OrbitProtect means we can give people who travel to New Zealand to work and study an assurance that they can travel safe and travel happy,” Mr Hennin said.

“There is also a complementary fit between the customers of OrbitProtect who seek permanent residence following their initial stay in New Zealand, and the products offered by nib to service those who become eligible for the public system but want to retain private health insurance cover for the sake of convenience and immediate access,” he added.

OrbitProtect CEO, Wayne Stewart, said he shared nib’s vision for outstanding customer service and a commitment to innovation. “I am very impressed with nib’s focus on technological innovation to drive better outcomes for their customers. They are very responsive and nimble in their approach, allowing them to implement change and innovation quickly, which is so important in today’s highly competitive market,” Mr Stewart said.

“At OrbitProtect we need to be able to provide our customers with an enhanced range of products to further our journey, and that’s exactly what our partnership with nib allows us to do,” he said.

The new partnership provides the opportunity for all advisers to access another IIHI solution with significant product advantages over other alternatives.

Advisers will be able to access the new solution via a dedicated landing page due for release later in October.
