Kiwi Indian MP Dr Gaurav Sharma woke up to a pleasant surprise on Thursday, January 14 as he was informed by friends and family back in India for being mentioned in one of the longest-running television show in India Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) by Amitabh Bachchan.

The show Kaun Banega Crorepati on channel Sony TV featured Dr Sharma in a question to a contestant asking in which country did Dr Sharma take oath in the parliament in Sanskrit, the question on the show for Rs. 25,00,000. (NZ$ 50,000 approx.).

"On being elected MP in which country did Dr Gaurav Sharma take the oath in the Sanskrit language?" the question on the latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati read.

The contestant, Alok Kumar Sharma, comfortably answered the correct option New Zealand and won Rs 25,00,000. The four options given to the contestant were England, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

On announcing the correct answer, host Amitabh Bachchan narrated the question's background, mentioning more about Dr Gaurav Sharma with his photo on the screen for the viewers.

"Becoming a member of parliament from a doctor, Dr Gaurav Sharma is from Hamirpur District of Himachal Pradesh state and contested from New Zealand Labour Party from Hamilton West constituency defeating candidate from National Party Tim Macindoe.

"And he took his oath in the New Zealand parliament in the Sanskrit language," host Amitabh Bachchan said (in Hindi) on the show.

Dr Sharma took onto social media site Twitter saying he was humbled to be mentioned on Sony TV's Kaun Banega Crorepati show with Amitabh Bachchan and he woke to numerous messages and phone calls from families and friends back in India.

Dr Sharma further added a nostalgic note on Twitter "Growing up in India (or even in NZ) we didn't have cable/satellite at home. One of my guilty pleasures while visiting my aunt (mausi) was to watch @KBCsony on cable with my 3 cousins who would use KBC #whowantstobeamillionaire show's Qs for national competitive exam prep," he said.

"I would often get told off for staying up late at night watching the #KBC show".

The show Kaun Banega Crorepati has been on again off again for last 21 years and is hosted by Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan. In 1999 BBC World gave Mr Bachchan Star of the Millennium award (the only actor ever to receive it) & in 2007 he was made Knight of the Legion of Honour (France's highest civilian award).
