A 47-year-old man was taken into custody on Thursday, September 24 following a homicide inquiry into the death of a 42-year-old woman in Papatoetoe.

Police were called to an address in Papatoetoe on Monday, September 21 after reports of the sudden death of a woman.

As per a reliable source, The Indian Weekender has been informed that in the initial inquiries, Police were informed of the death calling a ‘medical incident’, but upon further investigations, Police reeked of a foul play in the sudden death of a healthy woman and homicide inquiry was launched.

“Following enquiries, police subsequently launched a homicide investigation and arrested the 47-year-old man who was known to the victim and has been charged with murder,” Acting Detective Inspector Shaun Vickers, from Counties Manukau Police, said.

The Indian Weekender has also learnt that the people involved in the incident were of Indian origin, and the family members of the deceased victim are being informed of the incident. The name of the victim is yet to be released by the Police.

“Police are still in the process of ensuring all next-of-kin have been notified overseas and will not be in a position to release the deceased woman’s name until this has been completed.

‘Our deepest thoughts and sympathies are with the victim’s family at this extremely difficult time,” Detective Shaun Vickers added.

The man appeared in the Manukau District court earlier on Friday morning September 25.
