Bollyworx kicks off to brilliant start
Friday, July 10, 2009
Indian Weekender News Desk
Enthusiastic participants of all ages at the Bollyworx inaugural event
This was proven by the turnout of participants from all walks of life -toddlers, elders, females, males of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels. This group of over100 adults and 30-odd kids jump jammed to a feverish pitch for the full three hours of Bollyworx!
Bollyworx, SPROUT's first ever workout for Indian families took place on June 27 at Allan Brewster Recreation Centre, Papatoetoe, and was a success without doubt.
SPROUT's low-key advertising and reliance on word-of-mouth surprised all as the eventual turnout was overwhelming. The event was well-received and thought of as something the participants want SPROUT to carry out periodically.
"It was great fun. I loved the rhythm of aerobics with Bollywood songs. No complaints about those muscles strain and body aches so far as I have enjoyed stretches with my full strength. Looking forward for similar events soon,” said homemaker Sujata Nandal, who is in her mid thirties.
Bollyworx kicked off with a warming up session conducted by Dev Dhingra who is a trained community coach. His session prepared the participants for a pulsating, hi-energy 20 minutes led by Tony and Lea, both trained professional fitness instructors.
They demonstrated moves that were religiously followed and thoroughly enjoyed by young and old alike on the floor. Ella Kumar of TANI had the crowd hopping and working out to the catchy tunes of "Jai Ho”.
Amidst other enthusiastic instructors, SPROUT's die-hard members led by Anjana Bonesetter put up a solid choreography of "dancercise" set to the tunes of swashbuckling Bollywood music.
Anjana incorporated day-to-day movements like sweeping, mopping, hopping or simply hugging into the dance and this was applauded and appreciated by the crowd.
The session was concluded by a cool-down time taken over by Deepika followed by Tania Mehra, again a passionate freelance instructor.
Toward the second half of the session, the organisers decided to reward the driven participants on the floor by opening up the food counter to all, free of cost. Such was the impact of the drive and passion seen on the exercise floor.

Kanu Patel honoured with QSM
Congratulations to the Queen for recognising a great man
By Princess Deepitikashi Sharma
“
Queen has done well to give full recognition to Kanubhai, for whom greatness has run in family. All credit for his achievement goes to his father. Though Kanubhai has in his great humility mentioned others in the team too, such greatness comes primarily from the family, and who else but a Queen can recognise pedigree and nobility in blood? Well done Queen, and Kanubhai, hearty congratulations.
