Young talent shines through
While some are busy bringing in overseas singers to show off their talent here, Hillsborough chartered accountant Govardhan Malella believes in training the local for the future.

And it appears his efforts are already reaping rewards as was evident at the Geethanjali musical show at the Dorothy Winstone Centre on Saturday, February 14.

A host of young talent stamped their mark as the ones to watch in the future – among them them Malella’s daughter Vishnu Priya, Siddarth Krish, Rohan Ravikulan, and Pratyusha Tangirala.

Sixteen-year-old Vishnu Priya, a Year 12 student at Mt Roskill Grammar School, had the audience captivated with her numbers, performed with great ease. In total she performed eight songs on the night.
“We believe in supporting local talent instead of bringing in overseas ones, Malella told sandesh.co.nz. “There’s a lot of passion involved.
“In a few years’ time, there will be a lot of young local talent here in New Zealand, performing among the best,” Malella said.

Malella’s wife runs a music school from their home in Hillsborough, teaching classical Karnatic music with affiliated qualifications to the Madras University, in India. Ranging in age from five to 20 years, she now has 60 students under her tutelage.

Saturday’s show was packed with captivating numbers with music backed by the S B Music Magic Group. The show also featured dance performances by Rachna Natayalaya students.
